The Arcades Shopping Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne opened its doors in October 1995 and currently offers 1,306 m2 (140,000 ft2) of retail space over two floors. The centre accommodates over 40 well known retail stores under one roof including HMV, Next, Woolworth's, WH Smith, New Look, Superdrug, Bank, Footlocker, Original Shoe Company, Adams and The Body Shop.
A key part in the regeneration of Tameside has been reviving the retail scene in Ashton-Under-Lyne. Historically a bustling market town Ashton has faced the challenge of meeting modern-day shoppers’ expectations and the focus on retail investment in the core of the town is no-where more evident than at Ashton Arcades.
Big name brands are all located in the Arcades and with the planned £40 million expansion yet to come, Ashton Arcades, looks set to welcome even more high street names. The extension will include stunning new retail facilities as well as a modern transport interchange, complementing the refurbished market hall perfectly and bringing another dimension to Ashton town centre.
The plans to extend Ashton Arcades have brought renewed vibrancy to the town and will put Ashton on the map as one of the most popular shopping destinations in the region. Recent additions to the Arcades include, Carphone Warehouse and The Body Shop, which will continue the influx of notable retailers all of whom want to be a part of Ashton’s retail renaissance.
