COMMUNITY

Here at the Arcades, we pride ourselves on supporting local charities and are wholeheartedly committed to the community of Ashton Under Lyne and the surrounding areas. Since the Centre opened in 1995, we have consistently offered active support to charitable and voluntary groups within the area, with opportunities to make collections or hold displays in the Centre. In addition, goods and services are made available when possible for the support of those who work hard for the community.

Arcades Shopping Centre is proudly supporting and raising funds for local mental health charity, Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind throughout 2019 in the hope to raise awareness and make a difference in the local community.

Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf. It also works to raise public awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health.

The Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind began as a registered charity in 1978. Their mission is to provide the best quality local mental health services in prevention, early intervention and primary care; alongside empowering individuals and communities to live well. The charity provides a wide range of services to the local community including counselling, group therapy and training courses. The charity also offers specialist children services for those aged 8 and upwards.

Arcades Shopping Centre will be raising awareness for the local charity throughout the year with fundraising campaigns and hosting pop up stalls on the mall. During these visits, the charity will be providing advice, support and informative material for shoppers. Details of the dates will be available on the Arcades Facebook Page.

We have worked with the following charity organisations to fund raise and raise awareness:

Here at Reuben’s Retreat we support: Children who have a life limiting and/or life threatening illness and their immediate family – parents and siblings and Parents and siblings that have a lost a child.

We support families nationwide, so wherever you are you will be able to access our help and assistance.

Our support services are wide and varied and include: Counselling, Support groups, Activity & therapy days, Short breaks for children, Bereavement breaks.

Reuben’s Retreat accepts referrals for help directly from families, minimising the obstacles or barriers they face when trying to access support. We also accept referrals from a range of health, community and social care professionals and organisations.

Our vision is for a society in which people who are blind and partially sighted enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else.

Our purpose is to deliver the guide dog service and other mobility services; to break down legal and physical barriers; and to enable people who are blind and partially sighted to get around on their own.

Our values mean that we will always seek to be trustworthy and transparent; that we will always be innovative and responsive; and that we will collaborate with others wherever that is to the benefit of people who are blind and partially sighted.

Our vision is to have a world where all humans respect and live in harmony with the animal kingdom.

We work to improve the welfare of pets by: Ensuring that every pet is cared for properly and has a good home, Ending cruelty to pet animals, Raising standards for pet animals worldwide, Stopping pet overpopulation.

The Legion was founded by veterans after the First World War.
